Round-leaf fern or Button Fern (Pellaea rotundifolia)

This charming and unusual Round-leaf fern, often affectionately called "Button Fern" worldwide, is a true find for those who find common ferns too demanding. It stands out with its dark green, leathery, perfectly round leaflets that line up like small buttons on delicate, dark stems. Unlike its tropical relatives, this New Zealand beauty is much more patient and easier to care for. It is a delicate, compact, and very decorative houseplant that will add a cozy, soft, and textured natural accent to any interior. It makes a great and completely safe gift for both experienced and new plant lovers!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

• ☀️ Light: Bright, diffused light or light partial shade. To maintain its beautiful and dense foliage, the plant needs enough light, but it must be strictly protected from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will quickly burn its small leaflets.

• 💧 Watering: Moderate and very different from other ferns! Unlike tropical ferns that require constant moisture, the Button Fern’s soil surface (at least 2-3 cm) should be allowed to dry out slightly between waterings. Overwatering and standing water are very dangerous and will quickly cause root and delicate stem rot.

• 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Thrives well at standard room temperature and, fortunately, tolerates normal indoor air very well! It does not require the high humidity that other ferns need. In dry winter air, it will appreciate some air humidification indoors but protect it from cold drafts and direct heat from heaters.

• 🐾 Pets: Pet-friendly. This charming fern is non-toxic and completely safe to have around cats and dogs in your home.

🏠 BEST LOCATION:

• Desk or bookshelf (as a charming and unobtrusive design element at eye level).

• North or east-facing bedroom (bringing a calming and gentle natural presence to the room).

• Bright bathroom (only if it has a window, is not too hot, and has good air ventilation).

⚠️ Note: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen may differ slightly from the picture. As with ferns, its older (lowest) leaflets may brown and dry out over time – this is a natural process, and they can simply be carefully trimmed from the plant. Since this plant naturally grows spreading and slightly drooping, it will also look wonderful hanging in a macramé pot!
