Variegated Hoya or Wax Plant 'Compacta Variegata' (Hoya carnosa 'Compacta Variegata')
This extremely rare, sculptural, and highly coveted Hoya or Wax Plant 'Compacta Variegata' (also known as the variegated Hindu Rope plant) is a true natural masterpiece! It combines two unique features – its thick, waxy leaves are boldly and densely twisted into a tight, ring-shaped "rope," and in addition, they are luxuriously highlighted with bright cream-white, yellow, and green stripes. The most enchanting part – when receiving enough light, the new shoots and leaf edges of this plant turn soft pink and pastel tones! Currently, it is a very small baby (a young plant in a 6 cm pot), but over time it will grow into an indescribably magnificent, air-purifying, and fragrant hanging houseplant that will add a luxury-class, three-dimensional natural accent to any interior. It is an exclusive, exceptionally long-lasting, and completely safe gift for patient plant lovers and anyone who hunts for rarities!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Bright but diffused light. Here lies the main secret of this plant’s colors: the white and pink parts of the leaves contain no chlorophyll, so the plant vitally needs a large amount of light (it will also enjoy morning or late evening sun) to maintain its variegation. However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will instantly burn and brown its light and delicate edges.
-
💧 Watering: Rare and very careful. As an epiphyte, its extremely tough and succulent leaves work perfectly as water reservoirs. Allow the top layer and the middle layer of the soil to dry out thoroughly between watering sessions! It absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in the saucer, which will quickly cause root rot. The best indicator: if the leaves are firm and stiff, the plant does not need watering; if they become a bit more flexible – it’s time for a drink.
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Thrives well at standard room temperature and adapts easily to normal, dry indoor air. Pro tip: Its densely twisted, crinkled leaves are visually stunning but are favorite hiding spots for pests (especially mealybugs). Check the leaf creases carefully from time to time! In winter, protect firmly from cold drafts.
-
🐾 Pets: Pet-friendly. This gorgeous, tricolored wax plant is completely non-toxic and absolutely safe to have in your home with curious cats and dogs.
🏠 BEST LOCATION:
-
A bright and warm windowsill with morning or evening sun (ideal environment and convenient placement due to its small size).
-
A high shelf or a small hanging pot (macramé), allowing the airy cascade of colors to elegantly hang down in the future.
SPECIFICATIONS:
-
Height: 10-15 cm (string length at the time of receipt / young plant)
-
Pot diameter: 6 cm (baby seedling)
⚠️ Note and reality check about wax plants: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and its unique color distribution may vary. It is extremely important to keep in mind that you are receiving a small baby (in a 6 cm pot)! Even as an adult, this variegated Hoya compacta is known as one of the slowest-growing Hoyas in the world. Be very patient and do not repot this small seedling immediately into a large pot – Hoyas grow best and bloom faster (forming charming pink flower clusters) when their pot is a bit tight! Important nature secrets to know: Hoyas naturally produce long, "bare" shoots (strings) that initially have no leaves. Never cut these off! This is a normal process – over time, new crinkled and colorful leaves will sprout along these strings. When repotting, ALWAYS use extremely airy aroid/epiphyte soil (generously mixed with orchid bark and perlite).
