Royal Sunburst Aeonium (Aeonium 'Sunburst')
Get ready to bring a true explosion of color, desert aristocracy, and the most striking geometry in the houseplant world into your home or onto a sunny windowsill – the stunning Aeonium 'Sunburst' (Sunburst Aeonium)! This legendary treasure from the Canary Islands, highly prized among succulent collectors, is a true work of living art. The plant’s greatest pride, magnet, and unmistakable signature is its breathtaking, sculptural leaf rosette: from the base, it forms an airy, symmetrical rosette whose leaf centers shimmer in a rich emerald green, generously framed by vivid, gleaming cream-colored and sunny yellow bands. Sunlight adds special vibrancy and three-dimensional depth – when abundant light touches the leaf edges, they develop soft pink, coral, and even bright crimson accents. As the Aeonium grows, it develops a beautiful woody stem, gradually transforming into an elegant miniature tree with magnificent colorful rosette “balls.” It is currently a beautifully established, strong, notably sturdy, and stable 15 cm plant in an ideally sized 10.5 cm pot. This is the most prestigious, tasteful, and guaranteed-to-be-noticed gift for admirers of modern minimalism, succulent hunters, and anyone seeking untamed natural architecture in their home!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: An exceptionally bright, abundant, and maximally sunny environment! This is the main secret behind the plant’s pinkish-yellow coloring: Aeonium 'Sunburst' is a true child of the sun. To keep its rosette dense and compact and encourage the famous pink coloring along the leaf edges, place it in the brightest possible spot (it will love and needs direct sunlight). If the light is insufficient, the rosette will become thinner, lose its yellow contrast, and the stem will stretch unattractively. A south- or west-facing windowsill is the perfect choice!
-
💧 Watering: Moderate and carefully considered. Unlike many other succulents, Aeoniums have slightly thinner leaves and a more delicate root system, so they prefer a little more moisture than desert cacti, but they cannot tolerate living in a swamp. Water the plant thoroughly, but only when the soil in the pot has completely dried out between waterings! Since the plant is in a 10.5 cm pot, it will dry out moderately quickly in summer, but it categorically cannot tolerate its roots or the base of the rosette sitting in stagnant water in the saucer, which can rapidly cause rot. During the winter months, reduce watering to a minimum (once every 3–4 weeks).
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Feels excellent and comfortable in warm conditions and room temperatures (+18°C to +26°C). This plant tolerates dry indoor air, the heat of the heating season, and requires no misting or additional humidification without any problems. An important secret of nature: Aeoniums have a pronounced “summer dormancy period” – on very hot summer days, they may temporarily slow their growth and close their rosette to conserve moisture (this is completely natural!). Protect it from temperatures below +10°C and icy drafts in winter.
-
🐾 Keep away from pets: Although Aeoniums are not considered highly poisonous, their succulent leaves may cause digestive tract irritation in cats and dogs if chewed. Place this magnificent sun rosette somewhere inaccessible to four-legged friends.

⚠️ Note and a dose of reality about variegated Aeoniums: Plants are living organisms, so every specimen and its exact rosette size, the distribution of its yellow and green bands, and the intensity of the pink coloring on each leaf are completely unique works of nature. As this is already a nicely mature plant in a convenient 10.5 cm pot, it is hardy and will not require immediate repotting for a long time. When you eventually repot it, you MUST use a special mineral-rich, sandy, and highly porous cactus/succulent soil mix (containing plenty of grit, pumice, and perlite) to ensure excess water drains through the pot immediately and the roots always remain dry and healthy.
