Silk Acacia or Silk Tree (Albizia julibrissin)

This extremely graceful, exotic, and romantic Silk Acacia or Silk Tree is a true pride of southern gardens, which you can now grow yourself! This small tree stands out with its delicate, feathery, fern-like foliage, but its true beauty reveals itself in summer when it blooms with incredibly magnificent, fluffy, and sweetly scented pink flowers that look like fine silk tassels. One of its most magical features is the leaves' ability to move – every evening, at dusk (and also during heavy rain), the delicate leaflets neatly fold toward the stem as if going to sleep, and in the morning they open again facing the sun. It is a fast-growing, sun-loving terrace and indoor plant that will add an airy, oriental, and delicate natural accent to any environment. It is an ideal, joy-inducing, and very aesthetic gift for exotic plant lovers!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

• ☀️ Light: Maximum bright light and direct sunlight! For the silk acacia to develop well and bloom magnificently in the future, it vitally needs a large amount of sun. A south or southwest-facing location is absolutely ideal. In too dark a place, it will become leggy and very sparse.

• 💧 Watering: Regular but moderate. Acacia likes evenly slightly moist soil during active growth in spring and summer. Allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly between watering. It is relatively tolerant of short-term drought, but absolutely intolerant of root rot caused by standing water in the saucer! Watering should be significantly reduced in winter.

• 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Loves warmth! During the warm summer months, it is definitely recommended to take this small tree outside into fresh air on a sunny terrace or balcony. Unlike tropical houseplants, the silk tree is a deciduous tree, which means it needs a cool resting period in autumn and winter (ideal winter temperature is from 0°C to +10°C).

• 🐾 Pets: Not pet-friendly. Although the leaves themselves are not considered particularly dangerous, the plant’s pods and seeds (produced after flowering) are toxic to cats and dogs. Keep pets at a safe distance!

🏠 MOST SUITABLE LOCATION:

• Bright, sunny balcony, garden, or terrace (absolutely ideal place during the active growing season).

• Cool glazed loggia or winter garden (perfect place for safe overwintering of the plant).

• Very sunny windowsill (while the plant is still seedling-sized and grown indoors).

⚠️ Note: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and its crown shape may vary. The most important natural secret to know: since the silk acacia is a deciduous plant, its leaves will turn yellow and completely fall off in autumn – don’t be alarmed, the plant is not dead! This is a natural winter dormancy period. During this time, watering should be reduced to an absolute minimum (just enough to prevent the roots from drying out completely) and the plant should be kept cool. In spring, new beautiful leaves will sprout from the buds again! Also, don’t be afraid if the small tree "lowers its ears" and folds its leaves in the evenings – this is a normal prayer or sleeping process (nyctinasty). The plant has a strong root system, so in the future, when repotting, choose a deeper pot and airy soil with excellent drainage. Don’t forget to boldly prune it in spring to form a lush and symmetrical crown!
