Royal Black Stem Alocasia 'Black Stem' (Alocasia 'Black Stem')
Get ready to bring absolute botanical drama into your home or office, bold tropical architecture, and one of the most striking silhouettes in the world of houseplants – the stunning Alocasia 'Black Stem'! This exotic masterpiece of nature is a true find for lovers of contrasts and expressive forms. The plant’s greatest pride, its magnet and unmistakable calling card, lies in its name and play of colors: massive, arrowhead- or heart-shaped leaves in a vivid, emerald green with pronounced veining rise above the soil, supported by dramatically dark, almost black (deep purple-brown) and glossy stems. This powerful, architectural contrast literally draws the eye and makes this plant the room’s main “sculpture.” At the moment, it is an elegant, strong, and highly promising 35-40 cm tall plant in a generous 12 cm pot, which can grow over time into a substantial floor plant. It is the most prestigious, tasteful, and boldest gift for a housewarming, design enthusiasts, “urban jungle” fans, and anyone looking for a visually breathtaking, yet attention-demanding wonder of nature!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Bright, generous, but MUST be indirect. Here's the secret to this plant's large leaves and impressive stature: Alocasia needs plenty of light to grow large leaves and maintain strong stems. However, be sure to protect it from direct, scorching midday sun, which can quickly burn its thin leaves. An east-, west-, or slightly shaded south-facing windowsill will be perfect.
-
💧 Watering: Regular and extremely careful! Alocasias love consistent moisture, but they absolutely cannot tolerate their roots sitting in standing water. Water the plant when the top third of the soil has dried out. Any excess water in the saucer MUST be poured off within literally 15 minutes of watering, or the plant's thick, tuberous roots will quickly rot.
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A lover of tropical warmth and humidity! It thrives in warm rooms (+18°C to +25°C) and will be extremely happy with high humidity (a humidifier). It absolutely hates cold and drafts – in winter, keep it a safe distance from open windows and icy glass panes.
-
🐾 Keep away from pets and children: All parts of Alocasia contain calcium oxalate crystals, which are highly toxic. Chewing or swallowing them causes a severe burning sensation in the mouth, swelling of the lips and throat, as well as digestive upset in dogs and cats.
🏠 BEST ROOM:

⚠️ A note and a dose of reality about alocasias: Plants are living organisms, and, when growing alocasias, you need to know their biggest secret - they are the biggest "divas" and drama queens in the world of houseplants! Important botanical fact: When an alocasia (especially a young plant) grows a new leaf, it often draws energy from its oldest (lower) leaf, which turns yellow, droops, and dies. This is completely normal, natural process - don't rush to cut it off right away, let the plant absorb the nutrients, and then remove the old stem. The second most important fact: just like ivy, alocasias are also a magnet for spider mites in dry indoor air. Prevention is worth its weight in gold - once every 1-2 weeks, wipe the large leaves with a damp cloth or rinse the plant in a warm shower! When you repot it in the future, BE SURE to use a special, extremely airy and coarse "aroid" potting mix (with a very large amount of bark, perlite, and coconut chips).
🌡️ COLD TIME! If the outside temperature is below +5°C, be sure to add a heat pack to the order so that plants and predatory mites do not freeze on the way.
❄️ In cold weather, we recommend choosing Smartpost parcel lockers, as they provide indoor delivery, reducing the impact of low temperatures on the shipment.
⚠️ Important about the heating element! ‼️ 1 heating element per 1 order – it is not necessary to put one for each plant. ‼️ Provides heat for up to 72 hours. Without a heating element – we do not take responsibility for frozen plants and predatory mites.
📦 Pick it up promptly! When the package has been delivered, collect it the same day. Do not leave the package in the parcel locker overnight! Cold and heat can damage the plants and predatory mites.
