Alocasia 'Wentii' (Alocasia wentii)

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

• ☀️ Light: Bright, diffused light. To grow its massive leaves and maintain the beautiful color contrast, it needs plenty of light. However, it must be protected from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which can quickly burn its large leaves.

• 💧 Watering: Regular and careful. Keep the soil evenly moist (but not muddy!), allowing only the top layer to dry out. Alocasias dislike complete drying out, but standing in water will quickly rot their sensitive rhizomes. Watering should be reduced during the winter months.

• 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Loves warmth and requires very high air humidity. In dry indoor air (especially during the heating season), leaf edges can quickly turn brown and dry out. The plant will be extremely grateful for a humidifier or regular misting with soft water. Protect strictly from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes!

• 🐾 Pets: Not pet-friendly. Like other members of the Araceae family, alocasia is toxic to cats and dogs. It contains calcium oxalate crystals that cause severe irritation of the mouth and digestive tract if chewed.

🏠 BEST ROOM:

• Bright living room (as an impressive tropical accent on a plant stand to highlight the purplish-red underside of the leaves).

• Bathroom with a large window (an absolutely ideal environment where the plant can enjoy naturally increased humidity).

• Bright office or workspace (if sufficient humidity is maintained and there are no cold drafts from air conditioners).

⚠️ Note: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen may differ slightly from the picture. Please note an interesting fact: alocasias tend to "cry" (this process is called guttation) – in the mornings, water droplets may appear on the leaf tips. This is a completely natural process and indicates that the plant is releasing excess moisture! Also remember that alocasias have a pronounced winter dormancy period – if light and warmth are low, it may shed some or even all older leaves. This is not a cause for concern, as new leaves will grow from the tuber in spring!
