Royal Silver Star Cactus or Bishop's Cap (Astrophytum myriostigma)
Get ready to bring complete geometric harmony, desert aristocracy, and the noblest architecture of the cactus world into your home or on a sunny windowsill – the stunning Astrophytum 'Myriostigma'! This legendary and highly prized treasure of the Mexican mountains among collectors has earned its figurative name "Bishop's Cap" (Bishop's Cap) thanks to its sculptural and symmetrical shape. The plant’s greatest pride, magnet, and unique calling card is its perfectly smooth, spine-free stem: from the base rise 3 to 5 prominent, tall ribs that form a perfect star silhouette from above. This pure, geometric form is royally adorned and made unique by thousands of microscopic, silvery-white silk tufts (trichomes) covering the cactus surface, making it look as if cast from precious silver or covered with a gentle frost. During blooming, a large, silky shining soft yellow flower with a pleasant aroma blooms at the very top of the cactus, creating a stunning visual crown. Astrophytum is famously known for its ability to store water and exceptional durability, making it an ideal choice for busy people. Currently, it is nicely grown, strong, distinctly firm, and stable 10-15 cm tall in a perfectly sized 7.5 cm pot. It is the most prestigious, tasteful, and guaranteed exclusive gift for modern minimalism lovers, cactus collectors, and anyone seeking untamed natural art in their home!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Exceptionally generous, bright, and maximally sunny environment! Here lies the main secret of this plant’s silvery frost and symmetry: Astrophytum is a child of the sun. To maintain its famous dense silver speckling and boldly open new flowers, place it in the brightest spot (it will love and need direct sunlight). If the light is insufficient, the plant will lose its silvery shine and the stem will start to stretch unsightly. A south or west-facing windowsill is the perfect choice!
-
💧 Watering: Extremely rare, minimal, and very careful – this plant thrives best when occasionally "forgotten." Since its thick stem acts as an excellent water reservoir, the plant cannot tolerate constant moisture. Water the plant only when the soil in the pot is completely, 100% dry down to the bottom between waterings! Since the plant is in a 7.5 cm pot, it dries out fairly quickly in summer, but the plant absolutely cannot tolerate root rot caused by standing water in the saucer, which can quickly cause decay of the sensitive root system and base. Golden rule: stop watering completely during the winter months (plant dormancy from November to March)! If in doubt – never water!
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Feels great and comfortable in warmth and heat (+18°C to +27°C). This cactus tolerates dry indoor air without any problems, the heat of the heating season, and does not require any misting or additional humidity. On the contrary – high humidity can harm it. Important rule: during the winter dormancy period, it prefers a cooler room (+10°C to +15°C), which promotes flower bud formation for spring, but protect it from icy drafts!
-
🐾 Pets: Friendly. Unlike most other cacti, this plant has no sharp spines and is completely non-toxic, making it safe to have around curious cats and dogs at home.
🏠 MOST SUITABLE LOCATION:
-
Sunny south or west-facing windowsills, bright desks, and spots directly near windows, where this silvery star masterpiece will receive the most energy and stand out as the main design object.
-
Modern, bright, and minimalist interiors, where clean geometric lines and elite exoticism create an excellent visual balance.
SPECIFICATIONS:

Pot diameter: 7.5 cm (compact, stable volume ensuring excellent and safe root development)
⚠️ Note and reality check about astrophytums: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and its exact number of ribs (usually 4 or 5) or density of silver speckling is a completely unique masterpiece of nature – there are no two identical astrophytums in the world. Since this is already a nicely mature plant in a portable 7.5 cm pot, it is exceptionally durable and will not require immediate repotting for a very long time (cacti prefer narrow pots). When you repot it in the future, ALWAYS use a special, mineralized, sandy, and highly porous cactus/succulent soil mix (rich in gravel, pumice, and perlite) to ensure water drains instantly through the pot and roots always remain dry and healthy.
