Royal Begonia 'Lucifer' (Begonia 'Lucifer')

Get ready to add one of the most dramatic, bold, and visually striking rare houseplants to your collection – Begonia 'Lucifer'! This exclusive variety is a true botanical masterpiece that fully lives up to its fire and mysticism-inspired name. It stands out with a completely unique and magnetic color palette: its asymmetrical, sharply pointed, and distinctly textured leaves have a rich, dark burgundy and almost black tone. But the real burst of splendor is in the plant’s veins and the underside of the leaves – they shine in bright fiery, blood red, and ruby tones, creating a visual effect as if hot coals are glowing at the leaf base. The leaf surface is covered with fine, dramatic hairs that give the plant a refined, velvety depth. Currently, it is a small, compact, and extremely valuable 10-15 cm young plant in a tiny 8 cm pot. It is an air-purifying houseplant that will add a luxury-class, modern, and distinctly bold contrast to any interior. It is a perfect, unforgettable gift for those who love dark, exotic natural tones and seek plants with a strong visual character!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • ☀️ Light: Moderate to medium bright, but MUST be diffused light. Here lies the main secret of this plant’s fiery tone: to maintain such an intense, deep ruby-red color, the begonia needs good, filtered lighting. However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will instantly and irreversibly burn and dry out its precious, textured leaves. An east or north-facing windowsill, or a spot a bit deeper inside the room, will be ideal.

  • 💧 Watering: Regular, steady, and very balanced. This begonia likes consistent moisture – its roots must not dry out completely, but they also must not sit in swampy water. The soil in the pot should feel pleasantly spongy (like a squeezed sponge). Water only when the top layer of soil has just started to dry out! Since the young plant is in a small 8 cm pot, it will dry out relatively quickly, but the plant absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in the saucer, which will quickly cause juicy stem rot. When watering, try not to pour water directly onto the leaves.

  • 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A warmth-loving tropical resident (ideally +18°C to +24°C), which will be extremely happy with increased air humidity (above 55-60%). To keep its dramatic leaves flawless and prevent edges from drying out, place it near a humidifier, inside a closed plant cabinet, or on a pebble tray with water. Protect it from cold drafts and icy windowsills in winter!

  • 🐾 Pets: Keep away from pets. Like all begonias, this species contains soluble calcium oxalates, which are toxic to cats and dogs if chewed (especially the root part). For safety, place this small, delicate seedling out of their reach.

🏠 BEST LOCATION:

  • A bright and warm spot on a shelf or table in morning/evening sun (ideal environment and convenient placement due to its compact young plant size).

  • Modern, minimalist living rooms, home offices, or plant cabinets, where this plant’s dark and fiery color interplay will serve as a refined and eye-catching interior design accent.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Height: 10-15 cm (compact baby seedling / very valuable young plant)

  • Pot diameter: 8 cm (small mini pot)

⚠️ Note and reality check: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and the exact placement of red and black tones on its leaves may vary slightly (new leaves initially unfold a bit lighter, and their dramatic dark depth intensifies as the leaf matures). It is extremely important to remember that you are receiving a young plant (in an 8 cm pot)! Such small, exclusive seedlings require much gentler, more careful, and patient handling than mature plants. Do not repot this small seedling immediately into a too-large pot – begonias prefer a compact environment. When you do repot it in the future, be sure to use an excellently airy, light, breathable, yet consistently moisture-retentive soil mix (for example, a high-quality peat or coconut substrate generously supplemented with perlite) to ensure perfect water drainage at the pot’s bottom and prevent root rot.
