Royal Velvet Calathea 'Velvet Glory' (Calathea 'Velvet Glory')
Get ready to bring refined tropical luxury, a velvety touch, and the most interactive elegance in the world of houseplants into your home or office - the stunning Velvet Calathea 'Velvet Glory' (Calathea 'Velvet Glory' / Goeppertia)! This exclusive South American natural gem, highly valued by interior designers and prayer plant (prayer plants) enthusiasts alike, is a true masterpiece of living nature. The plant's greatest pride, attraction, and unique signature feature is its breathtaking foliage: on upright, delicate stems rise elongated, elegantly rippled leaves in a rich emerald green, with their undersides concealing a deep, regal purple and burgundy hue. In addition, both the leaf surfaces and stems are covered with fine, exceptionally soft hairs that create an incomparable luxurious velvet texture. The most magical feature of this plant is its ability to move - in response to changes in light, in the evening the Calathea gracefully raises its velvety leaves upward (like hands folded in prayer), while in the morning it lowers them again, revealing a vivid display of colors. It is currently a nicely grown, strong, notably dense, and highly promising plant. It is the most prestigious and tasteful gift for a housewarming, bedrooms, and anyone looking for a visually dynamic and living natural wonder in their home!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Bright, but MANDATORILY indirect light or moderate partial shade. This is the key secret to this plant's velvety leaves and color contrast: Calatheas naturally grow on the lower level of tropical forests, so they require filtered light. Protect it categorically and strictly from direct, scorching sunlight, which can instantly burn its delicate leaves, fade their color, and cause them to curl irreversibly. It will do best on an eastern, western, or even bright northern windowsill.
-
💧 Watering: Regular, moderate, and extremely particular! The Calathea likes consistent, light moisture in the soil, but it absolutely does not tolerate waterlogged roots. Water the plant thoroughly as soon as the top layer of soil (the upper 1–2 cm of the pot) has dried slightly. The soil should be as moist as a wrung-out sponge, but never wet. GOLDEN RULE: Calatheas are extremely sensitive to the chlorine and fluoride in tap water (this causes leaf tips to turn brown and dry out). For watering and misting, MANDATORILY use only settled, filtered, rain, or distilled water at room temperature!
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A heat-loving tropical "diva" (ideally +18°C to +25°C). This plant adores high humidity (60%+), so it will be most grateful for a spot near a humidifier or regular air humidification (but do not spray water directly onto the velvety leaves to prevent spotting). In winter, strictly protect it from the dry hot air of heating radiators, temperatures dropping below +15°C, and icy drafts!
-
🐾 Pets: Pet-friendly / Non-toxic. Calatheas are completely non-toxic and absolutely safe to keep in your home with curious cats and dogs.

⚠️ Note and a dose of reality about Calatheas: Plants are living organisms, so every specimen and its precise leaf rippling and color intensity are completely unique masterpieces of nature. An important dose of reality: Calatheas are known as true "divas" in the world of houseplants. Small brown leaf tips are a completely normal occurrence in response to insufficient humidity or the use of tap water. If a leaf loses its appearance, simply cut it off at the base - the plant will soon produce a new tuft that will develop into a beautiful leaf. When you repot it in the future, MANDATORILY use a special, very light, peaty, airy, and exceptionally well-draining soil mix for marantas/Calatheas (with a generous addition of perlite and pine bark).
