Delosperma (Delosperma sphalmantoides) or Miniature Ice Plant

This extremely charming, miniature, and brilliantly flowering succulent Delosperma, commonly called the ice plant, is a true herald of spring and summer! It stands out with its low, dense, cushion-like growth form and very small, bluish-green, fleshy leaves. But its true and breathtaking beauty reveals itself during flowering, when this small plant literally covers itself with bright, fuchsia pink or lilac flowers that open in response to sunlight. It is a very sun-loving, patient, and drought-tolerant houseplant that will add a bold, colorful, and exotic natural accent to any interior. It is an ideal, joy-enhancing, and very aesthetic gift both for succulent lovers and anyone who has a very sunny windowsill at home!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

• ☀️ Light: Maximum bright light and direct sunlight! For delosperma to maintain its dense, compact form and, most importantly, bloom abundantly, it needs a large amount of sunlight. A south or southwest-facing windowsill is an absolutely ideal choice. In too dark a place, the leaves will stretch out, and the plant will not flower (its flowers open only in full sunlight and close in the evenings or on cloudy days).

• 💧 Watering: Rare and very careful. As a proper succulent, it stores water reserves in its leaves. Allow the soil to dry out completely between watering! Since the plant is in a small (9 cm) pot, the soil will dry faster on sunny summer days, but remember – it absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in the saucer, which will quickly cause root rot. In winter, reduce watering to an absolute minimum.

• 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Thrives at standard room temperature and literally loves normal, dry indoor air. This plant must never be misted! In summer, it can safely be taken outside into fresh air on a sunny terrace, balcony, or rock garden. In winter (dormant period), it will appreciate a slightly cooler room (around 10–12°C), but it still needs plenty of light.

• 🐾 Pets: Pet-friendly. This brightly flowering succulent is non-toxic and safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.

🏠 MOST SUITABLE LOCATION:

• Bright and very sunny windowsill (an absolute prerequisite for a compact form and brilliant flowering).

• Sunny balcony or terrace in summer (a great accent for shallow decorative containers or rock garden compositions).

⚠️ Note: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and its flower quantity may vary depending on the season (the plant will flower most abundantly in late spring and summer). Important to know: this plant naturally forms a low, creeping mat, so over time it will slowly fill the pot in width rather than stretch in length. When repotting, be sure to use extremely loose, sandy soil (soil intended for cacti and succulents, further richly mixed with fine gravel or perlite) to ensure perfect and fast water drainage. Do not plant it too deep in the soil!
