Variegated Euphorbia or Milk Hedge 'Variegata' (Euphorbia lactea 'Variegata')

This highly modern, sculptural, and indoor plant design world-renowned Variegated Euphorbia (often also called Milk Hedge or Coral Cactus) is a true masterpiece of natural art and a stunning interior accent! Although visually it resembles a harsh and exotic desert cactus, botanically it belongs to the euphorbia family (Euphorbiaceae). This 'Variegata' variety stands out with its firm, three-angled, and distinctly textured silhouette, adorned with fine spines along the edges. But its greatest treasure is the breathtaking color palette – the plant’s tissues are covered with flawless cream-white, light ivory, and silvery green blotches, through which runs a darker, graphic central line. In addition to its avant-garde appearance, this plant is famous as one of the most resilient and patient indoor plants in the world. It is exceptionally long-lasting and completely unpretentious indoor plant that will add a minimalist, strong, and modern natural accent to any interior. It is the perfect gift for busy people, modern offices, and anyone who wants an exclusive plant at home but regularly forgets to water it!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • ☀️ Light: A true sun lover! Here lies the main secret of this plant’s snow-white tone: for the euphorbia to maintain such an intense, pure cream-white color and for its stem not to stretch thin and weak, it vitally needs a large amount of light. It will be absolutely delighted with a spot in bright, direct sunlight on a south, west, or east-facing windowsill. Unlike other tropical plants, this beauty adores the sun’s rays!

  • 💧 Watering: Extremely rare and minimal! This plant is a true succulent, and its thick, fleshy stem acts as a huge water reservoir. Water only when the soil in the pot is COMPLETELY dry all the way to the bottom! In winter months, watering once a month (or even less) is sufficient. The plant will categorically and instantly perish from overwatering, which causes root and stem base rot. If in doubt whether the plant needs watering – wait another week.

  • 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Thrives in warmth and hot summer days, and is also completely happy with the dry indoor air caused by winter heating. It does not require any leaf misting or air humidification. The only rule: strictly protect it from frost, cold drafts, and temperatures below +12°C.

  • 🐾 Pets: Keep away from pets and children. Like all euphorbias, this species exudes a thick, poisonous, and irritating milky sap (latex) at injury sites, which can cause skin reactions or burning. Thanks to the plant’s spiny and tough texture, pets show no interest in it, but for safety place it out of their reach and wear gloves when repotting.

🏠 MOST SUITABLE LOCATION:

  • Sunny and hot windowsills (especially on the south side), where other indoor plants tend to burn or dry out in the sun’s heat.

  • Modern, minimalist interiors, shelves, or home offices, where this plant’s sculptural geometry and light tone will serve as an exclusive style object.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Height: 10 cm (compact, strong, and very neat young plant)

  • Pot diameter: 8 cm (small)

⚠️ Note and reality check: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and its unique cream-white and green blotch pattern may vary slightly. This species is known for its exceptionally slow growth rate – it literally grows like a sculpture, so this plant will maintain its compact size for a very long time, requiring no frequent repotting and fitting perfectly into small spaces. Do not repot it immediately into a large pot – this plant prefers a narrow environment. When you repot it in the future, be sure to use an excellent draining succulent/cactus soil mix (generously mixed with coarse sand, perlite, and pumice) so water drains instantly through the pot and roots never sit in moisture.
