CARE AND PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

• ☀️ Light: While the bulb is planted and has not yet sent up a shoot, the amount of light is not very important. However, as soon as the flower stalk appears and begins to grow rapidly, place it in the brightest spot possible (in bright, indirect light). If there is not enough light, the stalk will become leggy and weak and may break under the weight of the large flowers.

• 💧 Watering: The golden rule of planting and watering! Plant the bulb so that at least 1/3 (or even half) of the bulb remains above the soil surface. At first, while the bulb has not yet developed roots or a green shoot, water it very sparingly, if at all, or keep the soil only minimally moist. Once the flower stalk has grown to about 5-10 cm, begin watering regularly, but never let the bulb sit in standing water!

• 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: To wake the bulb and encourage growth, it initially needs room warmth (+20°C to +24°C). However, once the flawless white flowers have fully opened, move the plant to a slightly cooler spot - the cooler temperature will keep the flowers fresh and let you enjoy them much longer! Additional air humidification is not necessary.

• 🐾 Keep away from pets and children: Hippeastrum bulbs, leaves, and flowers are highly toxic (they contain lycorine and other alkaloids). Ingestion causes severe vomiting and digestive upset in dogs and cats. Keep the bulb, and later the flowering plant, out of their reach!

The biggest mistake people make is overwatering the "bare" bulb right after planting, causing it to rot before it has a chance to wake up. Be sure to use a light, very well-draining houseplant mix and a pot with drainage holes. Once flowering is over, do not cut off the long green leaves - they will continue to nourish the bulb so it can build up strength and bloom again next year!
