The Wonderful Hoya or Wax Flower (Hoya mirabilis)
Prepare to bring true natural poetry and botanical luxury into your collection – the legendary Hoya 'Mirabilis'! The name of this unique wax flower comes from the Latin word meaning "wonderful" or "amazing," and it fully lives up to its name. This exotic tropical epiphyte originates from the depths of Thailand's rainforests and stands out with completely unique elegance. Its small, elegant, elongated leaves boast a pleasant lime green base color, generously and delicately adorned with magical silver drops and splashes that sparkle brilliantly in the light. But the greatest wonder of this Hoya lies in its readiness to reward its owner with flowers – when mature, it produces charming, hanging star-shaped flower clusters in soft cream or light green shades with fluffy details that emit a refined, sweet, and fresh fragrance. Currently, it is a very small, compact, and exceptionally valuable 10 cm young plant in a mini 6 cm pot. It is an air-purifying and very long-lasting vine / trailing plant that will add a minimalist, modern, and very tasteful tropical accent to any interior. It is a perfect, intellectual gift for passionate rarity hunters and those who adore delicate, silvered natural forms!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Bright but MANDATORILY diffused light. Here lies the main secret of this plant’s stunning beauty: for the Hoya to maintain such a vivid, pure silver splash coloration and to boldly bloom in the future, it needs a large amount of light (it will especially enjoy the gentle morning or late evening sun rays). However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will instantly and irreversibly burn its delicate leaves. An east or west-facing windowsill is a perfect choice.
-
💧 Watering: Rare, moderate, and very careful! As a typical tropical epiphyte with firm leaves, this plant stores water reserves perfectly in them. Water only when the soil in the pot has completely dried out to the bottom! Since the small young plant is in a small 6 cm mini pot, it will dry out relatively quickly, but the plant absolutely cannot tolerate root rot caused by standing water, which will quickly cause fine root decay. If in doubt – better wait a few more days.
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A warmth-loving tropical resident (ideally +18°C to +25°C), which adapts relatively well and patiently to normal, dry indoor air and does not require constant misting. Of course, it will appreciate moderate air humidity (above 50%), which helps new shoots and silver leaves develop faster and denser. In winter, strictly protect it from cold drafts!
-
🐾 Pets: Friendly. This exclusive and magnificent wax flower is completely non-toxic and absolutely safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.
🏠 MOST SUITABLE LOCATION:
-
Bright and warm windowsills, shelves, or a spot in a plant cabinet with morning/evening sun (ideal environment for maintaining flawless silver patterns and convenient placement due to its compact young plant size).
-
Modern living rooms, home offices, or mini display cases, where this plant’s delicate, shimmering tendrils will serve as a refined and eye-catching interior design element.
SPECIFICATIONS:
-
Height: 10 cm (compact baby seedling / exceptionally valuable young plant)
-

⚠️ Note and reality check about wax flowers: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and the exact placement of its silver splashes on the leaves may vary slightly (some leaves may bloom more silvery, others greener, and this is a natural and fascinating characteristic of variegated plants). It is critically important to remember that you are receiving a young plant (in a 6 cm pot)! Such small, exclusive seedlings must be handled much more gently, carefully, and patiently than mature plants. An important natural secret: Hoyas naturally grow as vines and sometimes produce long, bare shoots (tendrils) initially without leaves. Never cut these off! This is a completely normal natural process – when the long tendril finds support or enough light, new, magnificent leaves will gradually grow on it. If the plant blooms in the future, after flowering never cut off old flower stalks, because the Hoya will bloom next season from those same stems! When repotting this plant in the future, ALWAYS use a very airy, porous, and loose epiphyte soil mix (generously mixed with perlite and fine orchid bark) so the roots receive maximum oxygen.
