Classic Royal Houseplant – Hoya Cascade (Hoya sp.)
Get ready to bring unparalleled tropical elegance, lush greenery, and one of the most beloved and reliable cascades in the houseplant world into your home or office – the stunning Hoya (Hoya, popularly and famously known as the “Wax Flower”)! This exquisite epiphyte from the tropical forests of Asia and Australia is a true masterpiece of nature. The plant’s greatest pride, magnet, and unmistakable signature is its breathtaking cascading architecture: thick, fleshy, glossy leaves in a rich emerald-green shade, covered with a natural protective wax coating, are arranged along flexible, long, densely intertwined shoots. Once mature, hoyas generously delight with enchanting, star-shaped clusters of flowers that look as though they were made of velvet or porcelain and fill the room with a sweetly intoxicating fragrance during the twilight hours. Hoyas form an exceptionally dense, dynamic clump that can both spill magnificently over the edges of a pot in a lush green cascade and wind around supports. It is currently a grandly grown, strong, notably dense, large, and stable 20 cm cascading specimen in a generous, very stable 14 cm pot. This is the most prestigious, tasteful, and reliable gift for blessing a home, hanging pots, shelves, and anyone seeking the highest level of resilience and tropical atmosphere indoors!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Bright, abundant, but MANDATORILY indirect light. This is the main secret behind the plant’s juicy leaves and fragrant flowering: the hoya needs plenty of filtered light for its leaves to remain thick and for flower stalks to develop (it will especially enjoy gentle morning sunlight). Strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun, which can quickly burn and yellow its glossy leaves. An east- or west-facing windowsill will suit it best.
-
💧 Watering: Moderate, less frequent, and very careful – the hoya is a semi-succulent! Since its thick leaves store moisture, the plant does not tolerate wet soil or waterlogged roots. Water the plant thoroughly, but ONLY when the soil in the pot has almost completely dried out between waterings. As the specimen is in a generous 14 cm pot, it will retain moisture for longer, so the plant strictly cannot tolerate its roots soaking in standing water in a saucer or decorative pot, which can quickly cause rot. Reduce watering substantially in winter (once every 2–3 weeks).
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A heat-loving tropical resident (ideally +18°C to +25°C). This hoya adapts very well to ordinary indoor air, but will appreciate moderate humidity in the room. In winter, protect it from the hot, dry air of heating radiators, icy drafts, and temperatures falling below +12°C!
-
🐾 Pets: Pet-friendly / Non-toxic. Hoyas are completely non-toxic and absolutely safe to keep in your home with curious cats and dogs.
🏠 BEST ROOM:
-
Bright shelves, bookcases, hanging pots, and locations near windows, where these fleshy green cascading shoots can hang freely or wind along supports, creating a magnificent green accent.
-
Modern, loft, Scandinavian, or classic interiors, where clean lines and glossy natural textures create a cozy atmosphere.
SPECIFICATIONS:
-
Height: 20 cm (a grandly grown, strong, notably dense, bushy specimen that is already visually prominent)
-
Pot diameter: 14 cm (a stable, generous, and very stable volume that supports strong root-system and shoot development)
⚠️ Note and a dose of reality about hoyas: Plants are living organisms, so every specimen and its exact leaf arrangement, shoot length, and shape is a completely unique masterpiece of nature – no two plants in the world are identical. An important secret to hoya flowering: when a hoya blooms, never cut off the dried flower stalks (the stems on which the flowers grew) – next season it will bloom from those same flower stalks! Since this is already an exceptionally mature and strong specimen in a generous 14 cm pot, it is hardy and will not require repotting for some time (hoyas prefer compact pots). When you eventually repot it, MANDATORILY use a light, peaty, porous, and exceptionally well-draining epiphyte/hoya soil mix (with a generous addition of pine bark and perlite) to provide the roots with oxygen and prevent water from accumulating.
