Miniature Honey Hoya or Wax Flower (Hoya nummularioides)

Get ready to fall in love with one of the most adorable, compact, and highly cherished miniature wax flowers among houseplant collectors – Hoya 'Nummularioides'! This exotic natural treasure originates from the tropical rainforests of Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand and is a true masterpiece of miniature botany. It completely captivates with its tiny, almost round, and distinctly thick leaves, which have a unique, naturally matte, velvety, and finely fuzzy surface. Unlike many other Hoyas that grow long and bare, this variety naturally forms a very dense, lush, and compactly branched shrub silhouette. But the greatest fame and magic of this Hoya lie in its flowering – every year (usually in autumn) it blooms abundantly and boldly with countless porcelain-like flower clusters in a creamy white tone with a pink center, which emits an incredibly intense and sweet honey and jasmine fragrance, filling the entire room! Currently, it is a very small, compact, and cute 10 cm young plant in a mini 6 cm pot. It is an air-purifying and exceptionally long-lasting vine / trailing plant that will add a modern, cozy, and very tasteful green accent to any interior. It is a perfect, refined gift for lovers of sweet aromas and those who adore delicate, structured natural forms!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • ☀️ Light: Bright but MANDATORILY diffused light. This is the main secret to this plant’s compactness and flowering: for the Hoya to maintain its dense form and bloom generously in autumn, it needs a large amount of light (it will especially enjoy gentle morning or late evening sun rays). However, protect it strictly from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will instantly and irreversibly burn its delicate, fuzzy leaves. An east or west-facing windowsill is the perfect choice.

  • 💧 Watering: Rare, moderate, and very careful! As a typical tropical epiphyte with thick, succulent leaves, this plant perfectly stores water reserves in them. Water only when the soil in the pot has completely dried out to the bottom! Since the small young plant is in a tiny 6 cm mini pot, it will dry out relatively quickly, but the plant absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water, which will quickly cause fine root rot. If in doubt – better wait a few more days.

  • 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A warmth-loving tropical resident (ideally +18°C to +25°C), which, thanks to its thick and fuzzy leaves, adapts relatively well and patiently to normal, dry indoor air. Of course, it will appreciate moderate humidity (above 50%), which will help the tiny leaves grow even denser and lusher. In winter, protect it strictly from cold drafts!

  • 🐾 Pets: Friendly. This exotic and beautiful wax flower is completely non-toxic and absolutely safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.

🏠 MOST SUITABLE LOCATION:

  • Bright and warm windowsills or shelves in morning/evening sun (ideal environment for maintaining a flawless, dense silhouette and easy placement due to its compact young plant size).

  • Modern living rooms, kitchens, or plant cabinets, where this plant’s delicate, trailing stems will serve as an elegant interior design element, and during flowering – as a natural home fragrance.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Height: 10 cm (compact baby seedling / exceptionally valuable and rare young plant)

  • Pot diameter: 6 cm (mini pot)

⚠️ Note and reality check about wax flowers: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and the exact fullness of its shoots may vary slightly. It is critically important to keep in mind that you are receiving a young plant (in a 6 cm pot)! Such small seedlings must be handled much more gently, carefully, and patiently at first than mature plants – 'Nummularioides' initially grows slowly, strengthening its root system before starting active vine formation. Do not repot this small seedling immediately into a too large pot – Hoya roots prefer a compact and narrow environment. When you repot it in the future, be sure to use an extremely airy, porous, and loose epiphyte soil mix (generously mixed with perlite and fine orchid bark) so the roots receive maximum oxygen and excess water drains instantly through the pot.
