Miniature Variegated Wax Plant (Hoya tsangii 'Variegata')
Get ready to bring the gentlest botanical charm, pastel elegance, and the cutest luxury of houseplants into your collection – Hoya 'Tsangii Variegata' (often known among collectors as Hoya DS-70 'Variegata'). This extremely rare and passionately sought-after wax plant originates from the shaded tropical rainforests of the Philippines and belongs to the absolute elite of miniature hoyas. Its greatest pride is its small, elongated, and distinctly thick leaves, which have an exclusive, softly velvety texture. The leaf color palette is a true masterpiece of nature – each leaf is adorned with an uneven, warm creamy white and buttery yellow edge with a juicy green center. But the real magic of nature lies in its reaction to sunlight – when exposed to bright light, the white edges of the leaves can "tan" into stunningly vivid strawberry pink and fiery red shades. When mature, the plant produces charming, small star-shaped flower clusters in a deep red tone that emit an unusual and distinctly pleasant aroma of sweet butter caramel or freshly baked cookies. Currently, it is a small, compact, and top-quality 10-15 cm seedling in a mini-sized 7 cm baby pot. It is an air-purifying and exceptionally resilient vine / trailing plant that will add a minimalist, modern, and very tasteful accent to any interior. It makes a perfect, prestigious, and endlessly charming gift for those who adore miniature natural forms, pastel tones, and exotic fragrances!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Bright but MUST be diffused light. Here lies the main secret of this plant’s pink glow: since the light edges of the leaves contain very little chlorophyll, the plant vitally needs a large amount of light (it will especially enjoy the gentle morning or late evening sun rays) to maintain its expressive variegation and activate the famous pink "sun tan." However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will instantly and irreversibly burn its delicate, velvety leaves. An east or west-facing windowsill is the perfect choice.
-
💧 Watering: Rare, moderate, and very careful! Since its leaves are thick, juicy, and distinctly succulent, the plant stores water reserves in them perfectly for weeks. Water only when the soil in the pot has completely dried out to the bottom! Because the small seedling is in a small 7 cm baby pot, it will dry out relatively quickly, but the plant absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in the saucer, which will quickly cause sensitive root rot. If in doubt – wait a few more days.
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A warmth-loving tropical resident (ideally +18°C to +25°C) that, thanks to its thick and velvety leaves, adapts perfectly and without any problems to normal, dry indoor air and requires no special humidity. This makes it an exceptionally easy-care plant even during the winter heating season. The only rule: protect it from cold drafts and frost!
-
🐾 Pets: Friendly. This exclusive and colorful wax plant is completely non-toxic and absolutely safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.
🏠 BEST ROOM:
-
Bright and warm windowsills, shelves, or a spot in a plant cabinet with morning/evening sun (ideal environment for maintaining its unique pink tones and convenient placement due to its compact seedling size).
-
Modern living rooms, bedrooms, or home offices, where this plant’s gentle, colorful vines will serve as a tasteful design accent in the future, and during flowering – as a natural caramel scent.

⚠️ Note and reality check about wax plants: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and the exact density of its cream-colored variegation or the brightness of the pink "tan" may vary slightly (some leaves may bloom lighter, others greener – this is a natural and fascinating characteristic of variegated plants). It is critically important to remember that you are receiving a young plant (in a 7 cm pot)! Such small, exclusive baby seedlings must be handled much more gently, carefully, and patiently than mature plants at first – provide stable conditions for successful acclimatization. An important natural secret: hoyas naturally grow as vines and sometimes produce long, bare stems (vines) initially without leaves. Never cut these off! This is a completely normal natural process – when the long vine finds support or enough light, new velvety leaves and later fragrant flowers will gradually grow on it. Do not repot this plant immediately into a larger pot – hoya roots prefer a narrow, compact environment. When you do repot it in the future, ALWAYS use an extremely airy, porous, and loose epiphytic soil mix (generously mixed with perlite and fine orchid bark) so the roots receive maximum oxygen.
