Corrugated Fiery Hoya or Wax Flower (Hoya waymaniae 'Kapuas')

Get ready to add one of the wildest, most exotic, and highly prized wax flowers in the houseplant world to your collection – Hoya 'Waymaniae Kapuas'! This extremely rare and passionately sought-after tropical epiphyte comes from the depths of the rainforests in the Kapuas River basin on the island of Borneo and belongs to the absolute elite of Hoyas. It boasts a completely unique, prehistoric, and sculptural leaf design: its small, rounded leaves are incredibly thick, firm, and distinctly wavy with irregularly curled edges. The leaf surface is not smooth – it is distinctly textured, bumpy, and corrugated, with a dark, graphic net-like venation that feels and looks like exotic reptile skin. But the greatest magic of this Borneo queen lies in its fiery nature – in strong sunlight, its greenish-brown tones transform and "tan" into stunning bright oranges, fiery reds, and bronze hues, making the plant literally glow. When mature, this natural masterpiece blooms with unique, fluffy, nest-like clusters of bright orange flowers that emit a pleasant, exotic fragrance. Currently, it is a small, compact, and exceptionally valuable 10 cm young plant in a stable 8 cm pot. It is an air-purifying and incredibly resilient vine/hanging plant that will add a sophisticated, modern, and wild luxury accent to any interior. It is the most prestigious and coveted gift for passionate collectors and those seeking plants with a strong character!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • ☀️ Light: Bright but MUST be diffused light. This is where the main secret of this plant’s fiery beauty lies: for 'Kapuas' to show its famous bright orange and red "sun tan" and maintain the expressive leaf texture, it needs a lot of light (it will especially enjoy gentle morning or late evening sun rays). However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun rays that will instantly burn its unique corrugated leaves. An east or west-facing windowsill is a perfect choice.

  • 💧 Watering: Extremely rare, moderate, and very careful! Since its leaves are massive, firm, and distinctly succulent, the plant stores water reserves perfectly in them. Water only when the soil in the pot has completely dried out to the bottom! Because the plant is in a small 8 cm pot, it will dry out relatively quickly, but the plant absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in the saucer, which will quickly cause root rot. If in doubt – feel free to wait a few more days; this plant tolerates drought much better than excess moisture.

  • 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A warmth-loving tropical resident (ideally +20°C to +26°C), which, thanks to its thick and durable leaves, can adapt relatively well to normal indoor light. Of course, it will appreciate moderate to high humidity (above 50%), which helps new shoots and wavy leaves develop faster and denser. In winter, strictly protect it from cold drafts!

  • 🐾 Pets: Pet-friendly. This exotic and beautiful wax flower is completely non-toxic and absolutely safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.

🏠 BEST LOCATION:

  • Bright and warm windowsills, shelves, or a spot in a plant cabinet with morning/evening sun (ideal environment to maintain the unique fiery tone and easy placement due to its compact young plant size).

  • Modern, minimalist living rooms, home offices, or studies, where this plant’s sculptural, corrugated leaves will serve as a sophisticated and eye-catching interior design element.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Height: 10 cm (compact baby seedling / exceptionally valuable and rare young plant)

  • Pot diameter: 8 cm (small, stable pot)

⚠️ Note and reality check about wax flowers: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and the expressiveness of its leaf corrugated edges or "tan" brightness may vary slightly. It is very important to keep in mind that you are receiving a young plant (in an 8 cm pot)! Such small, exclusive seedlings require much gentler, more careful, and patient handling than mature plants – 'Waymaniae' grows slowly at first and needs time to acclimate. An important natural secret: Hoyas naturally grow as vines and sometimes produce long, bare shoots (strings) initially without leaves. Never cut these off! This is a completely normal natural process – when the long string finds support or enough light, new, grand, and textured leaves will gradually grow on it. Do not repot this plant immediately into a larger pot – Hoya roots prefer a narrow, compact environment. When you repot it in the future, be sure to use an extremely airy, porous, and loose epiphyte/orchid soil mix (generously mixed with perlite, coconut chips, and coarse orchid bark) so the roots get maximum oxygen.
