Royal Variegated Ivy 'Mona Lisa' (Hedera helix 'Mona Lisa')

Get ready to bring a true classic of nature, aristocratic romance, and the most elegant climbing houseplant of all into your home or office – the stunning Ivy 'Mona Lisa' (Ivy 'Mona Lisa' / Hedera helix)! A pride of European gardens and forests, this evergreen never goes out of style and adds cottagecore, country-estate charm to any room. The greatest glory, standout feature, and unmistakable hallmark of this special 'Mona Lisa' variety is its breathtaking foliage: classic, dense, star-shaped leaves line long, trailing vines, shining not just green, but beautifully and generously variegated with bright yellow, golden, and cream-white accents. This golden variegation literally brightens the room and creates a dappled-sunlight effect even on a cloudy day. Currently, this is a large, exceptionally bushy, and very impressive 45 cm-long cascading plant in a generous 19 cm pot. It makes a truly prestigious, tasteful, and reliable gift to bless a home, for owners of tall bookshelves, and for anyone seeking a visually stunning, fast-growing, relaxing wonder of nature!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • ☀️ Light: Bright, but MUST be indirect. Here lies the secret to this plant's golden pattern: unlike dark green ivy, variegated varieties ('Mona Lisa') need a little more light to keep their beautiful markings and avoid turning plain green. However, be sure to protect it from direct, scorching midday sun, which can quickly burn the leaves. An east- or west-facing windowsill is perfect.

  • 💧 Watering: Water regularly to maintain consistent, light moisture. Water generously when the top 2-3 centimeters of soil have dried out. Ivy suffers badly if its roots dry out completely (the leaves quickly become dry and brown), but it also absolutely cannot tolerate its roots sitting in standing water in the saucer. Always drain excess water after watering!

  • 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A lover of cool conditions and fresh air! Ivy thrives in cooler conditions (+15°C to +20°C). It absolutely hates hot, stuffy, dry air from heating radiators, so mist it regularly during winter or keep it in a cooler room.

  • 🐾 Keep away from pets and children: All parts of ivy (especially its leaves and stems) contain saponins, which are toxic. Chewing or swallowing them can cause vomiting, excessive drooling, and digestive upset in dogs and cats. Place this climbing plant somewhere they cannot reach.

🏠 IDEAL LOCATION:

  • Tall bookshelves, macramé hangers, and cooler bedrooms or hallways, where this cascade of variegated leaves can trail down freely and elegantly.

  • Classic, romantic, vintage, or Provencal-style interiors, where natural lines and classic shapes create a wonderfully cozy look.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Height: 45 cm (a substantial, very bushy, well-established climber with long trailing vines)

  • Pot diameter: 19 cm

⚠️ A note and a reality check about indoor ivy: Plants are living organisms, and if you grow ivy indoors, you should know its biggest secret and weakness: spider mites. In the dry, hot air indoors (especially in winter), ivy is a magnet for these invisible pests, which cause the leaves to become dull and yellowish and to dry out. Prevention is key! Once every 1-2 weeks, take the whole pot and thoroughly rinse the ivy foliage under a cool or room-temperature shower – this washes off dust and creates conditions spider mites hate. Here's another great tip: you are this plant's hairstylist! If the vines grow too long or become bare, feel free to grab your scissors and trim them – the plant will love it and grow back even bushier from the base!

📦 Pick it up promptly! When the package has been delivered, collect it the same day. Do not leave the package in the parcel locker overnight! Cold and heat can damage the plants and predatory mites.
