Bolivian Lepism or Jungle Cactus (Lepismium bolivianum)

This extremely elegant and exotic seedling is truly a unique find – it is not an ordinary desert cactus, but a genuine tropical forest or jungle cactus! The Bolivian Lepism stands out with its long, hanging, smooth, and spineless shoots that will eventually form a fantastic green waterfall. Under the right conditions, it may also delight you with small, charming flowers along the edges of the shoots. Since this is still a very small seedling (a baby) in a small pot, you will have a great opportunity to watch it grow and transform into a majestic and resilient houseplant. It will add a modern, airy, and natural accent to any interior. It is an ideal, completely safe, and joy-enhancing gift for both experienced plant lovers and anyone who wants something more unusual than a classic cactus!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

• ☀️ Light: Bright but diffused light. Since this is a forest cactus that naturally grows on tree branches under a large canopy, it does not like direct, scorching sunlight. Morning or evening sun (east or west windowsill) is suitable, but it should be protected from midday sun on the south side, as the shoots can get sunburned and turn yellowish or reddish.

• 💧 Watering: Moderate. Unlike desert cacti, this jungle dweller prefers slightly more frequent watering, but it must never sit in water! Allow the top layer of soil to dry out a bit between waterings. Since the plant is in a very small (6 cm) pot, the soil will dry out faster than in larger houseplants, so moisture levels should be checked more often. Its roots absolutely cannot tolerate standing water in the saucer, which will quickly cause rot.

• 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Thrives at standard room temperature and tolerates normal indoor air well. Since it comes from tropical forests, it will appreciate slightly higher humidity but is not very demanding. In winter, protect it strictly from cold drafts and open windows!

• 🐾 Pets: Pet-friendly. This hanging jungle cactus is non-toxic and completely safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.

🏠 BEST ROOM:

• Bright desk or small shelf (thanks to its current mini size, it fits perfectly even on a densely cluttered desk).

• Hanging pot in the future (an absolutely ideal and almost the only right place when the plant grows, allowing its long shoots to hang freely and elegantly in the air).

• Bedroom (as a safe and visually calming interior addition).

⚠️ Note: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and its number of shoots may vary slightly. Important to know: this is an epiphytic plant (in nature it grows on tree trunks, not in the ground), so when it’s time to repot this little one into a slightly larger pot, be sure to use extremely airy and loose soil! Specialized cactus/succulent soil mixed with fine orchid bark or perlite is best, allowing the roots to breathe freely. Never plant it in heavy and dense houseplant soil!
