Royal Fragrant Burgundy-Violet Oncidium 'Katerina Zoch' (Oncidium 'Katerina Zoch')
Get ready to bring deep tropical drama, royal luxury, and one of the most enchanting fragrances in the world of houseplants into your home or office – the stunning Fragrant Oncidium 'Katerina Zoch' (Oncidium 'Katerina Zoch')! This exclusive hybrid cultivar, highly prized by orchid collectors and interior design enthusiasts alike, is a true jewel of the natural world. The plant’s greatest pride, attraction, and unmistakable signature is its breathtaking, magnetic bloom: from the thick pseudobulbs at the base and lush green leaves, cascades of delicate star-shaped flowers in rich burgundy, deep violet, and purple tones with a soft lilac lip and a bright yellow center rise on sturdy, flexible stems. During flowering, 'Katerina Zoch' generously fills the room with a captivating, sweet fragrance that gradually unfolds. It is currently a beautifully mature, strong, notably dense, bushy, and stable 40–45 cm specimen in a generously sized 12 cm pot. This is the most prestigious, tasteful, and impeccable gift for housewarmings, anniversaries, luxury interiors, and anyone seeking the highest level of fragrant orchid elegance in their home!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Bright, abundant, but MANDATORILY indirect light. This is the key to this plant’s generous flowering and fragrance: Oncidium 'Katerina Zoch' needs plenty of filtered light for its dark flowers to retain their rich pigmentation and for new flower spikes to develop (it will especially appreciate gentle morning sun). However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sunlight, which can quickly burn and yellow its delicate leaves. An east- or west-facing windowsill will suit it best.
-
💧 Watering: Regular, moderate, and careful (soaking method). Unlike desert succulents, oncidiums prefer consistent, light moisture, but they cannot tolerate having their roots sit in stagnant water. Soak the pot in lukewarm water for 10–15 minutes once every 7–10 days, as soon as the surface layer of the substrate has dried. After soaking, allow all excess water to drain away completely. The plant strictly cannot tolerate its roots or the bases of its pseudobulbs sitting in stagnant water in a saucer or decorative pot, as this can quickly cause rot.
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: It thrives in moderate room temperatures (+18°C to +24°C). This orchid greatly appreciates moderate to high humidity, so it will be grateful to be placed near a humidifier. Tip: to encourage flowering, it prefers a moderate difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures (a 3–5°C difference). In winter, protect it from the dry heat of radiators and cold drafts!
-
🐾 Pets: Pet-friendly / Non-toxic. Oncidiums are non-toxic and completely safe to keep in your home with curious cats and dogs.
🏠 BEST ROOM:
-
Bright living rooms, dining rooms, desks, and windowsills, where this fragrant, burgundy-violet cascade of flowers can be admired up close and serve as the main luxury accent.
-
Modern, loft, Scandinavian, or classic interiors, where its deep tones and exotic flowers bring an impeccable festive atmosphere.
SPECIFICATIONS:
-
Height: 40–45 cm (a beautifully mature, strong, notably sturdy, large, and already flowering/bushy specimen)
-
Pot diameter: 12 cm (a stable and generous volume that supports strong root-system and pseudobulb development)
⚠️ Note and a dose of reality about oncidiums: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and its exact number of flowers, stem branching, and proportion of open buds may vary slightly, creating a unique natural form. An important orchid secret: oncidiums flower from new stem swellings (pseudobulbs) – when the orchid finishes flowering after a long blooming period, cut off the dry flower spike. The old pseudobulb will not flower again, but it will serve as a nutrient reservoir, from whose base a new shoot will grow and produce a new flower spike the following season! Since this is already a nicely mature and strong specimen in a 12 cm pot, it will not require repotting for at least 1–2 years. When you eventually repot it, MANDATORILY use a special fine-/medium-grade pine bark and moss substrate for orchids, not ordinary houseplant soil!
