Creeping Saxifrage or Strawberry Begonia (Saxifraga stolonifera)

This extremely charming and playful Creeping Saxifrage, often known worldwide as "Strawberry Begonia" (although botanically it is neither a strawberry nor a begonia!), is a true retro charm for your houseplant collection! It stands out with its round, slightly fuzzy leaves adorned with silvery veins, while the undersides of the leaves proudly display a striking burgundy tone. But its true pride is the long, pinkish runners, at the ends of which small, fully formed new plants or "babies" develop just like strawberries, creating a stunningly colorful, cascading, and airy appearance. It is a dynamic, very delicate, and visually interesting houseplant that will add a cozy, romantic, and natural accent to any interior. It makes a great, easy-to-propagate, and completely safe gift for any plant lover!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

• ☀️ Light: Bright but diffused light. To maintain the beautiful and contrasting leaf pattern and to encourage runner formation, the plant needs good light. However, it must be strictly protected from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which can quickly burn and fade its delicate leaves. An east or northwest windowsill is an ideal choice.

• 💧 Watering: Moderate. Keep the soil lightly moist, allowing only the surface layer to dry slightly between waterings. Important golden rule: since the plant’s leaves are fuzzy, avoid getting water on them! The best way to water the saxifrage is from below (pour water into the saucer, let the plant drink for 15 minutes, then pour out the excess) or very carefully along the pot’s edge.

• 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Unlike many tropical plants, this plant distinctly prefers slightly cooler rooms (especially in winter, when the ideal temperature is around 10–15°C). It will appreciate moderate air humidity, but it must not be misted to avoid fungal diseases and rotting of the fuzzy leaves!

• 🐾 Pets: Pet-friendly. This trailing and interesting plant is non-toxic and completely safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.

🏠 BEST LOCATION:

• Bright hanging pot or tall shelf (the absolute best place where the plant’s little "babies" can freely and elegantly hang down in the air).

• Cooler bedroom or veranda (where the plant will enjoy the pleasant, slightly cooler climate without hot radiators).

• Bright and sheltered windowsill (if it is not exposed to harsh midday sun).

⚠️ Note: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen may vary slightly from the description. Important to know: creeping saxifrage is one of the easiest plants to propagate in the world! When the babies at the ends of the runners have grown a bit, you can simply place them on moist soil next to the pot (without cutting them off from the mother plant). Once the baby has rooted, the runner can be cut, and you will have a completely new, independent plant! In summer, it will also delight with tiny white or pale pink flowers rising above the foliage like small, airy clouds.
