Royal Emerald Moss Cushion (Scleranthus)

Get ready to bring absolute botanical minimalism, lush emerald greenery, and the plant world’s most unusual, touch-pleasing architecture into your home, onto a cooler windowsill, or into a winter garden - the stunning Emerald Moss Cushion, or Scleranthus (Scleranthus / also popularly known as Australian moss or cushion plant)! This exclusive masterpiece of natural rock-garden (alpine) aesthetics is a true visual magnet. The plant’s greatest pride and unmistakable trademark are its breathtaking foliage and silhouette: it forms an exceptionally dense, compact, ground-hugging, perfectly smooth hemisphere that visually resembles a miniature, vivid green hill or a velvety moss cushion. To the touch, this carpet is dense and springy, creating a unique presence of natural architecture. It is currently a large, exceptionally dense, broadly grown 10-15 cm tall plant (but considerably wider in diameter) in a generously sized, large-volume pot. It is the most prestigious, tasteful, and unusual gift for a housewarming, owners of cool and sunny windowsills, fans of zen gardens, and anyone looking for an absolutely unique, living, geometric natural decoration!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • ☀️ Light: Bright, abundant, and maximally sunny conditions! This is the main secret behind this plant’s dense “moss” carpet: scleranthus grows in open, sunny mountain regions in nature, so it needs plenty of direct light. Place it on the brightest windowsill (south-, southeast-, or west-facing). In insufficient light or shade, the compact cushion will begin to stretch, lose its smooth hemispherical shape, and become sparse.

  • 💧 Watering: Regular, but extremely careful! The plant likes consistent moisture, but it is extremely sensitive to rot and wet foliage. GOLDEN RULE: water this plant ONLY FROM BELOW, pouring water into the saucer and allowing the soil to absorb it, then be SURE to drain the remaining water after approximately 20-30 minutes. If you pour water directly over the top, the extremely dense foliage will not be able to dry, and in contact with stagnant moisture it will quickly begin to turn brown and rot from the center.

  • 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A lover of coolness and fresh air! This alpine plant absolutely cannot tolerate hot, stuffy indoor air or heat. It will feel best in cooler, well-ventilated rooms (+10°C to +18°C). It is an ideal candidate for unheated glazed loggias, verandas, or very cool windowsills. In winter, strictly protect it from the hot, dry air of heating radiators!

  • 🐾 Pets: Pet-friendly / Non-toxic. Plants of the Scleranthus genus are completely non-toxic and absolutely safe to keep in your home with curious cats and dogs.

🏠 MOST SUITABLE LOCATION:

  • Cool verandas, glazed balconies, winter gardens, and sunny, cool windowsills, where this emerald cushion will receive the sunlight and fresh air it needs.

  • Minimalist, Japanese (zen), Scandinavian, or natural rock-garden-style interiors/exteriors, where its perfect hemispherical shape and vivid green color serve as a relaxing design element.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Height: 10-15 cm (a wide, strong, exceptionally dense, perfectly formed emerald-green “moss” cushion)

  • Pot diameter: 17 cm

⚠️️ Note and a dose of reality about alpine plants: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and its exact hill-like shape is a unique work of nature. An important dose of reality: just like the raoulia mentioned above, scleranthus is not a classic, all-forgiving houseplant. It requires excellent air circulation! If brown, dried-out, or rotten patches appear in the center of the cushion, this is a warning sign that the plant lacks light or fresh air, or has been watered from above. When you repot it in the future, be SURE to use a special, mineralized, highly porous alpine plant or succulent soil mix (generously mixed with sand, gravel, and perlite) to ensure fast, excellent drainage and protect the roots from rot. During winter, it can also be successfully grown outdoors or on a glazed balcony, as it tolerates cold extremely well.

📦 Pick it up promptly! When the package has been delivered, collect it the same day. Do not leave the package in the parcel locker overnight! Cold and heat can damage the plants and predatory mites.
