CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

• ☀️ Light: Bright, but MUST be indirect (filtered) light or partial shade. Herein lies the secret to this plant’s delicate leaves: in nature, this selaginella grows on the very bottom level of tropical forests, so it absolutely cannot tolerate direct, scorching midday sunlight. In direct sunlight, the “snowy” tips and green leaves will quickly burn and turn an ugly brown. An east- or north-facing windowsill will be absolutely ideal.

• 💧 Watering: Generous, regular, and consistent! This is one of the few plants that does not forgive drought. The soil in the pot MUST be evenly and slightly moist at all times! If you let the soil dry out completely, the plant will shrivel up in a flash, become crispy, and die irreversibly. However, be careful - the plant must not sit in standing water for extended periods.

• 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A lover of warmth and EXTREMELY high humidity! It will enjoy normal room temperatures (+18°C to +24°C), but dry indoor air is this plant’s biggest enemy. It absolutely hates hot, dry air from heating radiators! A humidifier, regular fine misting, or placing it on a tray of damp clay pebbles is critical to its survival.

⚠️ A note and a dose of reality about selaginellas: Plants are living organisms, and, when growing this species in a regular room, you need to know the harsh reality – selaginella is a "drama queen" when it comes to air humidity! If your home has dry air in winter and you don't use a humidifier, this plant's delicate, white tips will turn brown and dry very quickly, and the plant will lose its appeal. So it is highly recommended to grow it in a glass container or under a decorative glass dome – there it will thrive, maintain a perfect appearance, and require minimal watering! Also remember not to water it with ice-cold tap water; use standing water at room temperature. When you repot it in the future, use a very loose, moisture-retaining, but breathable houseplant substrate, generously mixed with peat and perlite.
