Royal Night Queen Vine Cactus (Selenicereus wercklei)
Prepare to welcome the most mystical, sophisticated, and highly prized tropical treasure among houseplant collectors into your home or office – the breathtaking Selenicereus wercklei! This exclusive and relatively rare vine cactus belongs to the legendary "Night Queens" family and grows as an epiphyte in the tropical rainforests of Central America, gracefully winding around tree trunks. The plant’s greatest pride and hallmark is its stunning, avant-garde silhouette: from the base boldly spread and curve long, slender, juicy green, and distinctly flat or multi-angled shoots with finely ribbed edges. It has a completely unique, minimalist character, as this variety’s spines are barely noticeable, delicate, and soft, highlighting the plant’s pure, sculptural natural lines. But the greatest mystery lies in its name (Selene – the Greek moon goddess): when mature, the plant produces grand, gigantic flowers in pure snow-white tones that open with royal boldness only at night, emitting a gentle, exotic, and pleasant fragrance. This plant is incredibly resilient, air-purifying, and will serve as a living design waterfall. It is currently beautifully grown, massive, lush, and distinctly stable at 35 cm tall in a grand 17 cm pot. It is the most prestigious, boldest, and guaranteed most unforgettable gift for modern style connoisseurs, architects, and anyone seeking an exceptional natural sculpture that requires almost no effort!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Medium bright to very bright, but MUST be diffused light. Here lies the main secret to this cactus’s flawless silhouette: since this is a tropical rainforest (not desert) cactus, it naturally grows in the shade of trees, so it strictly and absolutely cannot tolerate direct, scorching midday sun, which will instantly burn its beautiful, flat shoots and make them pale. It prefers pleasant, filtered light near an east or west-facing window, where the light helps maintain a dense crown and stimulates night flower formation.
-
💧 Watering: Moderate, regular, and very careful. Unlike desert cacti, Selenicereus likes a bit more moisture, but it still cannot live in swampy conditions. Water the plant generously, but only when the topsoil and the middle layer (upper part of the pot) between waterings are completely dry! Since the plant is in a large 17 cm pot, it retains moisture longer, so the plant absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in the saucer, which will quickly cause root rot. If in doubt – always safely wait a few more days.
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A warmth-loving tropical resident (ideally +18°C to +25°C). Thanks to its firm shoot structure, this cactus adapts perfectly and without any problems to normal, dry indoor air and does not require mandatory air humidification, making it an exceptionally easy-care plant even during the winter heating season. However, it will be very happy with occasional misting of the shoots in warm months. Protect it from cold drafts!
-
🐾 Pets: Friendly. This exotic tropical vine cactus is non-toxic and completely safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.

⚠️ Note and reality check about vine cacti: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and its exact shoot winding or number of angles may vary slightly, creating a unique natural form. Since this is already an exceptionally large and strong plant in a generous 17 cm pot, it is extremely stable and will not require repotting for a very long time (even a year or two). By nature, the plant is a distinctive vine – it can be allowed to flow freely downward or be attached to a moss pole or bamboo trellis, around which it will boldly climb upward. When you repot it in the future, ALWAYS use an extremely airy, porous, and well-draining soil mix (cactus soil generously mixed with perlite and fine orchid bark) so the roots can always breathe freely and excess water drains instantly through the pot.
