Royal Velvet Gloxinia 'Brocade' (Sinningia speciosa 'Brocade')

Prepare to bring unrivalled royal luxury, silky softness, and the most generous burst of colour in the world of houseplants into your home or onto your windowsill – the stunning Sinningia 'Brocade' (Gloxinia)! This legendary variety, highly prized among lovers of flowering houseplants, is a true masterpiece of nature, also known as the most luxurious queen of houseplants. The plant’s greatest pride, magnet, and unmistakable signature is its breathtaking, velvety bloom: from the thick leaves at the base rise large, funnel-shaped or bell-shaped double flowers with ruffled, brocade-like edges in rich violet, burgundy, or contrasting variegated shades. The velvety texture of the flowers catches the light and creates stunning visual depth, forming a fabulous contrast with the plant’s lush, soft, dark green leaves. The 'Brocade' series is famous for its exceptionally compact growth and ability to flower extremely generously – an entire bouquet of flowers can open on one plant at the same time. It is currently a beautifully established, strong, remarkably dense, lush, and stable 20 cm plant in a generously sized 12 cm pot. This is the most prestigious, tasteful, and heartfelt gift for a housewarming, celebrations, anniversaries, and anyone looking for a living, colourful, flowering accent in their home!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • ☀️ Light: Bright, abundant, but ABSOLUTELY indirect light. This is the main secret behind this plant’s abundant flowering and vivid colours: sinningia needs plenty of filtered light to produce a large number of flower buds and open them fully (it will particularly enjoy gentle morning sun). However, protect it strictly from direct, scorching midday sunlight, which can quickly burn its velvety leaves and delicate flower tissues. An east- or west-facing windowsill will be the perfect choice!

  • 💧 Watering: Moderate, regular, and very careful. Sinningias like consistently light moisture, but they do not tolerate “drowning” or water getting onto their leaves. Water the plant around the edge of the pot or from the bottom saucer as soon as the top layer of soil has dried slightly. The soil in the pot should be pleasantly moist, like a wrung-out sponge. As the plant is in a 12 cm pot, it will retain moisture well, but it absolutely cannot tolerate water getting onto its velvety leaves or the centre of the rosette, or its roots sitting in stagnant water in the saucer, which can quickly cause rot. Reduce watering in winter (during dormancy). Water only with lukewarm water.

  • 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A heat-loving tropical resident (ideally +18°C to +24°C). This plant adapts well to normal indoor air, but it will be extremely grateful for moderate humidity in the room. Important: never spray water directly onto the leaves or flowers! In winter, protect it carefully from cold, icy draughts when airing the room and from dry air currents produced by radiators.

  • 🐾 Pets: Pet-friendly. Sinningias (gloxinias) are non-toxic and completely safe to keep in your home with curious cats and dogs.

🏠 BEST LOCATION:

  • Bright windowsills, coffee tables, bedside tables, and desks, where this velvety flowering champion can be admired up close and serve as the main interior accent.

  • Modern and classic living rooms, where its rich colours and velvet-like texture bring cosiness and a springtime mood.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Height: 20 cm (a beautifully established, strong, remarkably dense, lush plant already flowering or in bud)

  • Pot diameter: 12 cm (a stable, generously sized pot that supports the development of a strong and healthy root system)

⚠️ Note and a dose of reality about sinningias: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and its exact number of flowers, degree of bud opening, and intensity of colour may vary slightly, creating a unique natural form. An important secret of nature: sinningias grow from tubers – in autumn, after a long period of abundant flowering, the plant may naturally turn yellow and shed its leaves as it enters winter dormancy. Do not throw it away! Place the pot in a cooler, darker location, water it very sparingly, and in spring the tuber will awaken and produce a new, magnificent crown of leaves and flowers. As this is already a well-established plant in a 12 cm pot, it is strong and will not require immediate repotting. When you repot it in the future, use a light, peat-based, airy, well-draining houseplant potting mix with added perlite.

📦 Pick it up promptly! When the package has been delivered, collect it the same day. Do not leave the package in the parcel locker overnight! Cold and heat can damage the plants and predatory mites.
