Royal Velvet Gloxinia 'Brocade' (Sinningia speciosa 'Brocade')
Get ready to bring unrivalled royal luxury, silky softness, and the most generous explosion of colour in the world of houseplants into your home or onto your windowsill – the stunning Sinningia 'Brocade' (Gloxinia)! This legendary variety, highly prized among lovers of flowering houseplants, is a true masterpiece of nature, also known as the most luxurious queen of houseplants. The plant’s greatest pride, magnet, and unmistakable signature is its breathtaking, velvety bloom: from the thick leaves at the base rise large, funnel- or bell-shaped double flowers with wavy, brocade-like petal edges in rich violet, burgundy, or strikingly variegated shades. The velvety texture of the flowers catches the light and creates stunning visual depth, forming a fabulous contrast with the plant’s lush, soft, dark green leaves. The 'Brocade' series is famous for its exceptionally compact growth and ability to flower extremely generously – a whole bouquet of flowers may open on a single plant at the same time. It is currently a beautifully established, strong, exceptionally dense, bushy, and stable 20 cm plant in a generously sized 12 cm pot. This is the most prestigious, tasteful, and heartfelt gift for a housewarming, celebrations, anniversaries, or anyone looking for a living, colourful, flowering accent for their home!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Bright, generous, but обязательно diffused light. This is the main secret behind this plant’s abundant flowering and vivid colours: sinningia needs plenty of filtered light to produce a large number of flower buds and open them fully (it will especially enjoy gentle morning sunlight). However, protect it strictly from direct, scorching midday sunlight, which can instantly burn its velvety leaves and delicate flower tissues. An east- or west-facing windowsill will be the perfect choice!
-
💧 Watering: Moderate, regular, and very careful. Sinningias like consistent, light moisture, but they do not tolerate “drowning” or water getting onto their leaves. Water the plant around the edge of the pot or from the bottom saucer as soon as the soil surface has dried slightly. The soil in the pot should be pleasantly moist, like a wrung-out sponge. Since the plant is in a 12 cm pot, it will retain moisture well, but it strictly cannot tolerate water getting onto its velvety leaves or the centre of the rosette, nor having its roots soak in standing water in the saucer, which can quickly cause rot. Reduce watering in winter (during dormancy). Water only with lukewarm water.
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A heat-loving tropical resident (ideally +18°C to +24°C). This plant adapts well to normal indoor air, but it will be extremely grateful for moderate humidity in the room. Important: never spray water directly onto the leaves or flowers! In winter, protect it carefully from cold, icy draughts when airing the room and from dry air currents caused by radiators.
-
🐾 Pets: Pet-friendly. Sinningias (gloxinias) are non-toxic and completely safe to keep in your home with curious cats and dogs.

⚠️ Note and a dose of reality about sinningias: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen may vary slightly in its exact number of flowers, the degree to which its buds have opened, and the intensity of its colours, creating a unique natural form. An important secret of nature: sinningias grow from tubers – in autumn, after a long period of abundant flowering, the plant may naturally turn yellow and shed its leaves as it enters winter dormancy. Do not throw it away! Move the pot to a cooler, darker place, water it very sparingly, and in spring the tuber will awaken and produce a new, magnificent crown of leaves and flowers. Since this is already a nicely established plant in a 12 cm pot, it is strong and will not require immediate repotting. When you repot it in the future, use a light, peat-based, airy, and well-draining houseplant potting mix with added perlite.
