Strelitzia Nicolai

White Strelitzia or White Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia nicolai)

This extremely popular and majestic White Strelitzia, widely known worldwide as the "White Bird of Paradise," is a true queen of the houseplant world and an icon of modern jungle design. Although it is currently a small seedling, over time this fast-growing plant will develop massive, banana-like leaves and become a truly impressive large indoor tree. It is an expressive, architectural, and very dynamic houseplant that will add a touch of luxury and a bold tropical atmosphere to any interior. It makes a desirable and long-lasting gift for any aesthete, design enthusiast, or lover of large plants!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

• ☀️ Light: Bright, diffused light and direct sunlight. For the strelitzia to grow its magnificent leaves and develop a strong, straight stem, it needs as much light as possible. A south, southeast, or west-facing windowsill (or a spot right by the window) is an excellent choice. In too dark a place, the plant will stop growing and the leaves may start to wither.

• 💧 Watering: Abundant during the active growing period (spring and summer). Keep the soil lightly moist, but allow the top layer of soil (at least 3–5 cm) to dry out well between waterings. Avoid root soaking in standing water in the tray, as the strelitzia’s thick, fleshy roots rot very quickly. Watering should be reduced during the winter months.

• 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Loves warmth and thrives at standard room temperature. The plant will appreciate increased air humidity and regular misting or wiping its large leaves with a damp cloth to free them from dust and allow them to breathe. In summer, it can safely be placed outside on a sunny balcony or terrace. Protect it from cold drafts during winter ventilation!

• 🐾 Pets: Not pet-friendly. The plant is toxic to cats and dogs. If its leaves or stems are chewed, it can cause digestive irritation, nausea, and vomiting.

🏠 BEST ROOM:

• Bright and spacious living room (near large windows where the plant will eventually have room to freely spread its massive leaves).

• Sunny and modern office (as an absolute central green and motivating accent in the space).

• Bright bedroom (bringing a harmonious and calming tropical presence to the room).

⚠️ Note: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen may differ slightly from the one shown in the picture. Important to know: as strelitzias grow larger, their leaves naturally begin to split along the side veins. This is a completely normal natural mechanism that protects the large leaves from breaking or snapping in strong winds in their native habitat, and it definitely does not mean the plant is damaged or sick! Please also keep in mind that this 25-30 cm tall seedling is still very young – give it plenty of light and time, and soon it will become a true jungle giant (although this species rarely blooms indoors)!
