The royal avant-garde cactus (Trichocereus bridgesii f. monstrosa / Echinopsis lageniformis)
Get ready to bring absolute botanical avant-garde into your home or office, provocative natural humor, and one of the most sought-after and intriguing collector rarities in the world of houseplants – the stunning Bolivian torch cactus (the famous Trichocereus bridgesii monstrose, aptly nicknamed the "P... cactus" by houseplant enthusiasts and collectors around the world)! This natural masterpiece is a real find for fans of bold humor, rare cactus collectors, and anyone looking for a conversation-starting centerpiece (ice-breaker). The plant’s greatest pride, its magnet and unmistakable calling card, is its breathtaking, genetically mutated growth form: unlike ordinary cacti, it produces bluish-green, smooth, distinctly cylindrical segments, that are almost entirely spineless (a few fine spines are usually found only right at the base), creating an unmistakable visual resemblance to male anatomy! It is now a nicely grown, vigorous and extremely amusing 10-15 cm specimen in a classic 10,5 cm pot. This is the boldest, most exclusive gift with the best sense of humor for urban jungle enthusiasts, parties, and anyone looking for a visually striking, unusual and absolutely unique natural sculpture!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: An enormous amount of bright light and direct sun! Here's the secret to this cactus's firm, healthy shape: as a native of the South American deserts, it can never get too much sun. A south- or southwest-facing windowsill will be absolutely ideal. In insufficient light, it will start to stretch, lose its compact shape, and grow thin and weak.
-
💧 Watering: Extremely rare, minimal, and with surgical precision! Water the plant thoroughly, but ONLY when the soil is completely, 100% dry all the way to the very bottom of the pot (about once every 2-3 weeks in summer)! It absolutely cannot tolerate its roots sitting in stagnant water in the saucer. In the winter months (from November to March), watering should be reduced to an absolute minimum (a few drops once a month or not at all), allowing the plant to rest.
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A heat lover in summer, but it strongly needs cool conditions in winter! During the active growing season, it thrives in any warm room (+20°C to +30°C). This plant categorically hates humidification (misting) – dry indoor air is absolutely perfect for it. In winter, if possible, place it in a cooler room (+10°C to +15°C), to provide a dormant period.
-
🐾 Keep away from pets and children: This cactus is toxic. Trichocereus bridgesii is known in nature as a plant that contains potent alkaloids (including mescaline). Chewing or ingesting it can cause severe poisoning, vomiting, and neurological disorders in dogs, cats, and humans.
🏠 BEST ROOM:
-
Sun-drenched south-facing windowsills, bright desks (if right beside a window) and cactus collection shelves, where this comical and expressive accent will get the light it needs.
-
Modern, eclectic or “boho” interiors, where unusual, sculptural and provocative natural forms serve as a three-dimensional design and conversation piece.
SPECIFICATIONS:
-
Height: 10-15 cm (compact, cylindrical segments of the mutation (monstrose) form, without prominent spines).
-
Pot diameter: 10,5 cm.
⚠️ A note and a reality check about Trichocereus monstrose: Plants are living organisms, and, when growing this rare mutation, you need to know two golden botanical rules! First, this form grows slowly and in distinct segments – this means the plant won’t stretch upward like a regular cactus, but over time, it will produce new, small, round “babies” (shoots) at its base (or from the sides of existing segments), forming a whole, bushy colony over the years! Second, dry, brown or cork-like patches often form on its bluish-green, smooth skin – this is a completely natural aging and scarring (corking) process for this species, not a disease; it simply strengthens the plant’s structure. When you repot it in the future, BE SURE to use an extremely coarse, mineral-rich, exceptionally fast-drying cactus mix (generously blended with sand, gravel, pumice or perlite), with very little organic soil.
🌡️ COLD TIME! If the outside temperature is below +5°C, be sure to add a heat pack to the order so that plants and predatory mites do not freeze on the way.
❄️ In cold weather, we recommend choosing Smartpost parcel lockers, as they provide indoor delivery, reducing the impact of low temperatures on the shipment.
⚠️ Important about the heating element! ‼️ 1 heating element per 1 order – it is not necessary to put one for each plant. ‼️ Provides heat for up to 72 hours. Without a heating element – we do not take responsibility for frozen plants and predatory mites.
📦 Pick it up promptly! When the package has been delivered, collect it the same day. Do not leave the package in the parcel locker overnight! Cold and heat can damage the plants and predatory mites.
