Royal Dragon Scale Alocasia (Alocasia baginda 'Dragon Scale')
Get ready to welcome one of the most impressive, legendary, and most admired natural masterpieces in the world of houseplants into your collection – Alocasia 'Dragon Scale'! This breathtaking tropical treasure originates from the depths of the rainforests of Borneo Island and belongs to the prestigious elite of "jewel alocasias" (Jewel Alocasia). The plant has earned its poetic name thanks to its completely unique, fantasy novel-worthy leaf texture: its thick, firm, and oval leaves boast a distinctly textured, bumpy, and blistered surface that perfectly resembles the scales of a mythical dragon. The base color of the leaves is magically silvery green, dramatically highlighted by deep, distinctly dark, almost black veins, creating a stunning 3D effect and architectural depth. The back of the leaves surprises with an elegant, creamy white tone adorned with bright, purple-red veins. This plant naturally maintains a pleasantly compact and dense form, making it a perfect elite design object. Currently, it is a small, compact, yet distinctly energetic and top-quality 10-15 cm young plant in a tiny 6 cm mini pot. It is an air-purifying houseplant that will add an elite-class, modern, and distinctly exclusive luxury accent to any interior. It is a prestigious, unforgettable gift for passionate collectors and those seeking plants with an unbeatable character!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Bright but MANDATORILY diffused light. Here lies the main secret of this plant’s sculptural beauty: for 'Dragon Scale' to maintain its compact form and expressive dark vein contrast, it requires a large amount of light (it will especially enjoy the gentle morning or late evening sun rays). However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will instantly and irreversibly burn its unique, precious leaves. An east or west-facing windowsill is a perfect choice.
-
💧 Watering: Extremely moderate and very thoughtful! As a typical jewel alocasia with thick, succulent leaves, this plant does not tolerate overwatering. Allow the top layer of soil and the middle layer (the upper third of the pot) to dry out thoroughly between watering sessions! Since the young plant is in a small 6 cm mini pot, it will dry out relatively quickly, but the plant absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in the saucer, which will quickly cause sensitive root and tuber rot. Reduce watering significantly in winter.
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A warmth-loving tropical queen (ideally +18°C to +25°C), which will be extremely happy with increased air humidity (above 55-60%). High humidity helps new leaves open easily and without cracks, and also protects leaf edges from premature browning. It will appreciate a spot near a humidifier or inside a closed plant cabinet. In winter, strictly protect it from cold drafts and icy windowsills!
-
🐾 Pets: Keep away from pets. Like all alocasias, 'Dragon Scale' contains calcium oxalate crystals, which are toxic to cats and dogs if chewed. Place this precious and delicate plant out of reach of your four-legged friends.

⚠️ Note and reality check about alocasias: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and its leaf’s precise, textured form may vary slightly (new leaves initially unfold in softer, lighter tones, and their dramatic dark veining and "scale" firmness intensify as the leaf gradually matures). It is critically important to remember that you are receiving a young plant (in a 6 cm pot)! Such small seedlings require much gentler, more careful, and patient handling than mature plants. An important natural secret: alocasias grow naturally in cycles, and to grow a new, larger, and stronger leaf, they often sacrifice and drop their oldest, smallest leaf – this is nothing to worry about; it is a completely normal process. Do not repot this plant immediately into a too-large pot – alocasias prefer a compact environment. When you repot it in the future, be sure to use an extremely airy, porous, and loose aroid soil mix (generously mixed with perlite, coconut chips, and fine orchid bark) so the roots can breathe freely and excess water drains instantly through the pot.
